Children’s Book of the Week: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

This Week’s Book: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Blurb (From Amazon):

An imaginative story of amazing food weather that inspired the hit movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a favorite of grown-ups and children everywhere.

The tiny town of Chewandswallow was very much like any other tiny town—except for its weather which came three times a day, at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

But it never rained rain and it never snowed snow and it never blew just wind. It rained things like soup and juice. It snowed things like mashed potatoes. And sometimes the wind blew in storms of hamburgers.

Life for the townspeople was delicious until the weather took a turn for the worse. The food got larger and larger and so did the portions. Chewandswallow was plagued by damaging floods and storms of huge food. The town was a mess and the people feared for their lives.

Something had to be done, and in a hurry.

This beloved bestseller is now available for the youngest readers in this Classic Board Book edition!

Reason I chose this book:

I loved this book as a child. I can’t tell you how many times I read it. To myself. To my siblings. I live in a southern state so we don’t see snow much. I did wish for snow a lot as a kid, but in the form of mashed potatoes lol. I was excited when the movie came out. It wasn’t like what I was expecting, but I really did like the addition they added to the book. It was imaginative. I don’t really like went things get changed in adaptations, but this is an exception!

Children’s Book of the Week: One Hundred Percent Me

This Week’s Book: One Hundred Percent Me

Blurb (From Amazon):

A heartwarming story about the joys of multicultural families and being mixed race. One Hundred Percent Me takes readers (ages 4 to 8) along as a young girl explores and accepts her unique identity.

It can be confusing to be a child of mixed race. As the little girl moves through daily life in the big city, she hears some people say she looks more like her Puerto Rican dad, while others claim she takes after her Filipina mom. Should she favor one identity over the other? No! In fact, honoring every facet of her identity equally becomes the main character’s favorite affirmation. This beautifully illustrated book about celebrating differences, claiming our belonging, and acknowledging our heritage encourages all readers to embrace the fact that we are all 100% ourselves.

Reason I chose this book:

It’s hard enough to figure out who you are as you grow up. It’s even harder when people don’t seem to understand your culture or cultures in some cases. I feel this book should be in any household that has younger children. I think it would be a comfort to know that the way they feel isn’t just them. It may even help them talk about it more.

Children’s Book of the Week: When Goblins Puppysit

This Week’s Book: When Goblins Puppysit

Blurb (From Amazon):

When Mal’s mom, a witch, wants to go out for the day she needs a sitter, but who can she trust to watch over the pup? er magical friend, Jaye, suggests leaving his goblins to watch him.

What could go wrong?

Reason I chose this book:

Well, to start with, both the artist and author are incredibly talented. There’s also the fact that I really love dogs. The story is also so cute! The pictures are cute as well! I read the book to my dogs. They seemed interested. I think. I completely approve this book for children of all ages. And puppies too!

Children’s Book of the Week: The Sparkly Bun

This Week’s Book: The Sparkly Bun by Keith Ktoeckeler

Blurb (From Amazon):

“The Sparkly Bun” is a captivating children’s book that encourages imagination, self-esteem, self-expression, and self-discovery. It tells the story of Emme, a girl who loves fashion and has a passion for her favorite item, her sparkly bun.

However, when Emme wears her favorite clothing to school two days in a row, her classmates make fun of her. This causes Emme to question if being different is a good thing. Throughout the book, Emme learns that it takes courage. Still, it’s essential to be true to oneself, express one’s individuality, and that being different makes us all special and gives us our own identity.

This children’s book emphasizes the difference between fitting in and being true to oneself and how creativity and imagination can help children embrace their uniqueness, all through a creative and unique approach — food.

With its charming illustrations and heartwarming story about empowerment and confidence, “The Sparkly Bun” is a must-have for any child’s library. It encourages children to embrace their identity, pursue self-expression, and celebrate self-discovery.

Reasons I chose this book:

The illustrations in this book are sooo cute! I also love the message that it pushes. Being unique and yourself is so important. I wish I was encouraged to do that more when I was a kid. I absolutely adored it!

Children’s Book of the Week: Introduction

I want to introduce a new segment. It’s called Children’s Book of the Week. I’ll showcase a children’s book that I think parents should check out every Tuesday. I know you’re probably wondering why I’d do this. I’m not even a parent.

The answer is simple. I don’t think there’s enough blog talk about children’s books. There’s plenty of chatter about young adult books, fantasy books, books that shouldn’t be actually mentioned on a blog about children’s books, etc.

My end goal here is to help children’s book authors get their books seen AND to introduce these wonderful books to parents for their children. Mostly, these will be children’s books, but there will also be some middle-grade books as well.

I sincerely hope you enjoy!

My Thoughts:

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am not done reading this book yet. I was also given a copy on Netgalley. I’m only going off what I’ve read so far and how it’s impacted me personally.

I really have enjoyed this book. I have learned a lot. I will definitely be reading this book at least once more to make notations and take notes of other books to read that are referenced in the book. I am so impressed with how captivating this book really has been. Sometimes nonfiction tends to not hold my attention and I have to reread it. I have never had that with this book. Book Spotlight: White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson

White Smoke

The Haunting of Hill House meets Get Out in this chilling YA psychological thriller and modern take on the classic haunted house story from New York Times bestselling author Tiffany D. Jackson!

Marigold is running from ghosts. The phantoms of her old life keep haunting her, but a move with her newly blended family from their small California beach town to the embattled Midwestern city of Cedarville might be the fresh start she needs. Her mom has accepted a new job with the Sterling Foundation that comes with a free house, one that Mari now has to share with her bratty ten-year-old stepsister, Piper.

The renovated picture-perfect home on Maple Street, sitting between dilapidated houses, surrounded by wary neighbors has its . . . secrets. That’s only half the problem: household items vanish, doors open on their own, lights turn off, shadows walk past rooms, voices can be heard in the walls, and there’s a foul smell seeping through the vents only Mari seems to notice. Worse: Piper keeps talking about a friend who wants Mari gone.

But “running from ghosts” is just a metaphor, right?

As the house closes in, Mari learns that the danger isn’t limited to Maple Street. Cedarville has its secrets, too. And secrets always find their way through the cracks.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book very much. Not only does it have the spook factors, but it also covers very real and very troubling realities that we face today. Things that some people want swept under the rug. This is a real page-turner. I didn’t expect the ending until it was right there in my face. I can’t wait to see this book turned into a movie one day! I also really loved the mental health representation in this book, and the real terrors behind drug addictions.

In Chase Greatness: Enlightened Leadership for the Next Generation of Disruption, CEO Rajeev Kapur reveals how most business leadership is out of step with evolving times and values―which has negatively impacted both the effectiveness of our workforces as well as the bottom line.

The good news is it’s never too late to “Chase Greatness” in your leadership role. Kapur provides a powerful toolbox of practical advice that will enable you to not only be profitable but also reflect values that will enhance lives and make the world a better place.

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed this book so much. I read it entirely in one sitting. I think anybody that’s considering running a business or taking up management of any kind should read it. It’s so educational. It covers all topics. From the mundane behind the scenes leadership things to the hard topics that nobody really likes to talk about. The author even adds a bit of his own personal experience in the book. I really do feel like I learned a lot. I even now consider a leadership role of some kind whereas before, I had no interest.
