Mantle of the World Ruler (The Lost Wells Trilogy #2)
Publication Date: January 2023
Genre: Epic Fantasy

An ancient curse broken, a new prophecy foretold, and a grimoire of dark Druidic magic. After a year of unimaginable violence, magic, and an all-consuming love that has followed her through countless incarnations, Julia Harrison has not only come into her own as a magic Bearer-far surpassing those women in her bloodline who came before her-but is about to start down a path that can end in only one of two ways: with her fulfilling her prophesized role as Sovereign, chalice of the World Ruler; or with the death of everyone and everything she holds dear at the hands of Cassius Longinus, The Child of Rome, in his brutal and inexorable quest to finally achieve true immortality. Mantle of the World Ruler-Book Two of the Lost Well Trilogy-begins directly after the events of its predecessor, and with it, author Kate Gateley draws the reader right back into the romantic, magical, and often terrifying world of Bearers and Wielders, Knaves and Wraiths, and Domhnall O’Brien, cursed by choice to follow his love through one life after another until they can save each other at last.

Review:

I haven’t gotten to the second book… yet. I did really enjoy the first book! It was interesting. I wasn’t able to really predict anything that happened! Also, I listened in audio. I loved the narration. The book does end on a bit of a ciffhanger. I’ll have a bigger review on both books in another blog soon.

About the Author

Storytelling is in Morgan Gauthier’s blood. She can’t seem to turn her brain off at night and some of her best ideas have come to her in the shower.

Born to two book-loving parents, Morgan was raised on a healthy diet of The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Nancy Drew, and any fantasy book she could get her hands on. She started writing her own stories at eleven years old and hasn’t looked back.

She is the author of the Mark of the Hunter Trilogy (Wolves of Adalore, The Red Maiden, and The Raven and the Wolf) as well as Aloha, Seattle and The Maine Attraction (both Contemporary Romantic Comedies).

Morgan Gauthier lives in East Tennessee with her husband and best friend, Brad, and their three children, Remi, Archer, and Roux (who are 5 years old and younger!). If five people wreaking havoc in the same house wasn’t enough, Morgan also has three dogs, Potter, Skye, and Bubba.

If Morgan isn’t writing or reading, she can be found binge watching Netflix shows, attempting to cook like Gordon Ramsay (not even close to his level), and practicing archery.

Rambling Monday: Bookish Events

Topic: Bookish Events

By the time this posts, I’ll be heading home from Salem. This will be the third event I have attended in three months. I’m not sure if I want to do multiple events every year. IF I do, they will be more spread out than one every month.

To be fair, that wasn’t done on purpose. I was invited to an event by an author who lives in Australia so that I can order signed books by her without a heavy shipping fee. That was in Tennessee in August. I figured I could use it as an early birthday gift to myself.

Then later, I was invited to another event by an author who attends the con was going to. That was the event I’m attended this week in Salem.

Then, something came up, and mom and I were invited to got to the event that we normally go to every year in July but weren’t going to go to this year.

The first two events were very close. I feel like I barely wound down from the July one before we were heading to the August one. Luckily, there’s been quite of a gap between the August one and this one. I don’t know how people who attend tons of these events do it. Especially those that are practically back to back!

I haven’t decided if I’ll ever go to another convention or book signing again. But again, if I do, they will be better spaced apart. I won’t do the same thing I did this year! I don’t know what I was thinking! I’m an introver for crying out loud!

I’ll try to make a post about the Salem trip once I’m settled in at home. Tell me about your bookish events and experiences!

Sundays in Bed With… Shadow Gaze

I’m not sure how much reading I’ll be getting done today. I’m in Salem at the Getting Witchy With It book signing. I’ll be attempting to get books for book tours done for next week though. Starting with this book. I absolutely love the cover. It’s so gorgeous!

Blurb for Shadow Gaze:

Shadow Gaze is the first season of the Silver series, which combines the first three episodes, already digitally published, as well as an exclusive bonus episode titled Rebirth.

Set before the timeline of the main series, Rebirth follows the titular Silver in the early days of her life as a supernatural. Shedding her human identity, she starts over at her skinwalker friends’ sanctuary for supernatural runaways where she has to navigate complicated new relationships while mastering her mysterious powers. Meanwhile, back at the estate, Adam struggles to come to terms with his own supernatural existence and adapt to his horrifying new reality.

Series blurb:

After months of captivity, Silver ran away from the evil vamphyr that had turned and imprisoned her. Shedding her old identity, she went into hiding and spent years in training. Knowing full well that her old Master has been looking for her, she has been preparing herself for the day when she would go back to her old prison and carry out her revenge.

However, nothing in the world could have prepared Silver for the hybrid and the human that were forced into her life one day. The hybrid, Adam, could report her back to her old Master at any time, but their shared history puts them on the same side—for now. Tolerating the human, on the other hand, presents a huge challenge.

Bubbly, energetic, and raging with excitement about everything supernatural that she discovers, Theresa has the complete opposite reaction a normal human should have to the secret world of vamphyrs, werewolves, and skinwalkers. At first, Silver was intent on keeping the girl safe, since she made it her life’s mission to protect humans. But the girl’s overactive imagination and string of never ending questions are a constant headache and keep derailing Silver’s plans.

Nevertheless, no matter how much Theresa pesters her, the one thing Silver will never reveal to anyone, least of all her two unwanted stowaways, is the secret behind her having silver pearls for eyes.

Weekly Reading Wrap Up: September 16th, 2023

Books Finished This Week:

I really struggled through Tides of the Sovereign. I kind of struggled with Lady of the Dragons too. They aren’t bad books. They just weren’t really grabbing my attention that well.

Being as I almost went into a reading rut, I think this is amazing.

Tre-Erde Cover Reveal

Cover Reveal Banner

We are thrilled to share the cover of the upcoming fall release Tre-erde by U.L. Harper!

Ebook

Tre-erdeExpected Publication Date: October 12, 2023Genre: Sci-Fi/ Fantasy

What would you do for the future of your soul?

Like any other person in the community of Tre-erde, Janae believes each tree in the Tre-wood Forest grows from the soul of a buried ancestor, from a deceased friend, or a relative. Like any person in Tre-erde, she believes she belongs in the community, despite them shunning her for the nature of her estranged father.

But unlike others in Tre-erde, she can’t believe what the Prime, the wisest person in all the communities, is telling them: the mythical dragon from childhood stories will finally arrive and eat the trees in the Tre-wood. It will then carry their souls in its belly across the sea to the other world, that promised better world.

When the mother and father of her friend Daneel take their own lives, it signals what might be a trending kind of travesty that will happen in anticipation of the dragon’s arrival. Not accepting this fate for Tre-erde, Janae and Daneel travel to Kahlil, the community near the sea, to find proof that the dragon is not real and is merely part of a story.

In their journey, they discover half-truths that shaped Tre-erde’s past, and unprecedented changes in the world around them. All this while gathering knowledge of a near future event that threatens, not just the lives of all those in Tre-erde, but the nature of what it means to have a buried soul.

Bookish Chatter: My Thoughts on Certain Topics

As most of you know, I’m currently out of town. Before I left, I went ahead and scheduled as many blogs ahead as I could. Saturdays are always hard for me because I really can’t do my Reading Wrap-Up blog segment until the top of the day Saturday. Per me, of course. I take the data from the Saturday before to Friday.

So anyways, I thought I could put in something so I don’t lose my streak and that I’d probably want to talk about anyway. Somebody suggested that I talk about my thoughts on AI. I didn’t know how to make an entire blog about that, so I decided to add to it. I decided to give my thoughts on some topics that are on the controversial side.

Please hear me out on all of my thoughts on each. I want to explain that I am one of the types that see both sides of the equation. I will explain my reasons for feeling why I do. I also always hear feedback from others. As long as they are conversational. Anybody who feels the need to bash and attack because I don’t see it like they do will be ignored.

So here we go.

  1. AI: There are certain aspects about this that do concern me. I don’t think that it is going to steal people’s jobs. I think that’s been a scare tactic used for many years to prevent us from advancing. But I digress. I watched a video that basically said anything you do on an AI platform can’t be copyrighted. I do disagree with that. I think if YOU did the work that. you should be able to protect others from stealing it. That being said, what if AI can benefit us? What if it gives people who aren’t as creative as they’d like to be a platform to grow? What if it broadens the art world in ways we can’t even imagine?
  2. Book Buying Bans: I don’t really care for this “trend”. I’ll leave off the fact that I feel that forcing yourself NOT to do something only makes you want to do it more. At least it’s that way for me. I get that we all have bills and other expenses. BUT I also understand that buying books also provides authors with income. Especially our indie authors. My book-buying “bans” are just when I don’t have the funding at the time to buy books. I want to point out that I am NOT bashing anybody who does these. I’m just explaining why I don’t agree with them.
  3. Reviews: There’s a thing about some authors responding to negative reviews. Or having their platform respond. It could even be that the platform is responding with no motivation behind it other than their own. I don’t agree with that behavior. I ALSO don’t agree with people using reviews to bash or bring authors down. In my opinion, reviews are meant to be constructive feedback on the book as well as your personal thoughts about the book. All constructive feedback and thoughts help the authors moving forward. Which is also why I don’t feel reviews are just for readers. Yes, it’s meant to get the reader to buy the book, but it’s also meant to help the author see where the book was strongest and where it could use some work.

That’s all I can really think of right now. I was going to try to make this a five thought post, but I really need to branch out more. The problem is once videos or posts start feeling stressful to me, I stop looking into them. I also understand that everybody has different opinions. I’m actually thankful for that. Could you imagine living in a world where we all thought and did the same thing?

What are some of your thoughts on these topics?

The name’s Lady, and I’m the half-demon hand of justice determined to send every bad bro and gross demon back to Hell where they belong–and in the most painful way possible. It was a good gig before Nova showed up, my dream demon stalker. Now thanks to my history of crappy luck and shady demon blood, I’ve lost everything.
