Review:
This book was intense from the very beginning. We start out with the FBI and police being called out to a bomb threat. That bomb threat was a ruse to cover up a hit that happened right in front of the building. Everything goes to chaos from there. I wasn’t able to predict anything at all. I was floored with how many twists were thrown into the book.
I really did enjoy the book. I am very excited to see that it’s the first book in a series! This means I have more time and more stories with this characters. I really feel like characters like these are why series are born. People fall in love with the characters in the book they are writing so they wind up writing more books because of it.
In my opinion, this is like a crime show, but better. I also really loved the diversity in this book. I also really recommend the book. I would be very happy to see this become a television show or movie!

I really didn’t think I’d wind up enjoying this book when I first read it. It wasn’t a horrible book, but it wasn’t exactly great either. The main character was just a bit much. I get that she’s a kid. I just didn’t care for her attitude in the beginning. She and other characters in the book really grew on me. Especially Valley. I’ll leave it at that. It’s a middle grade book, but it’s a very enjoyable read for all ages. I also love the cover so much!

Isaiah Morillo, Portland Bears’ baseball star, was my ultimate downfall.
We were only meant to be a passing fling, but all it took was one bad decision to bring my world crashing down.
With my life in tatters and my reputation ruined, I hoped to escape the scandal by retreating to Gatlin Falls.
Little did I know, more chaos awaited me there.
Holly Gatlin was forbidden fruit and my ultimate addiction.
One taste would never be enough.
When my reckless actions caused Holly to lose it all, I vowed to make things right. I didn’t know how, but I would—an eye for an eye and all that sh*t.
And once that cold, hard payback had been served, I was heading to Gatlin Falls to get my girl.
*** ONE TASTE is a standalone novella, interlinked with Vi Summers’ main Gatlin Brothers series.

Review:
This book was a bit more action packed than the first book. In different ways though. I also feel like there wasn’t as much of a buildup in this book. I guess that makes sense since it’s a sequel. We have already been introduced to the main character and the people who are constantly in his life. Well, as much as we can know the main character that is.
Speaking of characters, there was a character that I just really started not liking in this book. They don’t listen. They immediately jump to conclusions without having a conversation to figure out why things happened the way they did. It was frustrating. I also feel like said conflict kind of got brushed over. I mean it was discussed in a way, but not to a point where any actual resolution has been fully explained.
I’ve only read two books so far but it seems like these books can be read as standalone books. I personally won’t be reading them in any order other than the order they are written in. That’s just because I’m a weirdo. Either way, I’m fully reading all of the books in the series. They are witty and fun. They are also intense and full of intrigue. I’m also really enjoying the fact that I’m buddy reading it with somebody important to me. That makes it even more special to me.

I’m going to keep this review brief. It’s a very short story. It was very cute. I would have liked it a lot better had it been drawn out more. I also feel that it’s a bit of an incomplete thought in many ways. That’s not saying that I didn’t enjoy it. Maybe it’s the fact that I was enjoying it so much that I was just wanting more. It’s kind of like getting a sample of a really delicious food and not having access to more of it. Either way, I really enjoyed the book. I can’t wait to read other books by this author. They will make wonderful holiday books!

Note: Today is different. I can only read during sunset. It’s a challenge in a readathon that I’m participating in. It’s called The Hocus Pocus readathon. Look it up on Twitter or Google if you’re not familiar with it. I can only read during sunset for the first five days. I’m listening to Grave Peril while scheduling blogs. At sunset, I plan to read and finish Witchlings.
I’m buddy reading this book with a good friend of mine. I just managed to get my hands on a copy, so I’m a bit behind. I’ll get caught up. These area really good books.
Wizard for hire Harry Dresden gets mixed-up with the dead in this “haunting, fantastical novel”(Publishers Weekly) in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
Harry Dresden’s faced some pretty terrifying foes during his career. Giant scorpions. Oversexed vampires. Psychotic werewolves. It comes with the territory, when you’re the only professional wizard in the Chicago area phone book.
But in all Harry’s years of supernatural sleuthing, he’s never faced anything like this: the spirit world’s gone postal. All over Chicago, ghosts are causing trouble—and not just of the door-slamming, boo-shouting variety. These ghosts are tormented, violent, and deadly. Someone—or something—is purposely stirring them up to wreak unearthly havoc. But why? And why do so many of the victims have ties to Harry? If Harry doesn’t figure it out soon, he could wind up a ghost himself…
I’ve really enjoyed this book very much. I had plans to finish it yesterday, but I discovered it’s the group read for the readathon. It’s taken a lot of distraction to not finish it. I’m so excited to get to the end.
An instant New York Times bestseller! Disney’s The Owl House meets Nevermoor, in a brilliant new adventure from Claribel A. Ortega!
Every year, in the magical town of Ravenskill, Witchlings who participate in the Black Moon Ceremony are placed into covens and come into their powers as full-fledged witches.
And twelve-year-old Seven Salazar can’t wait to be placed in the most powerful coven with her best friend! But on the night of the ceremony, in front of the entire town, Seven isn’t placed in one of the five covens. She’s a Spare!
Spare covens have fewer witches, are less powerful, and are looked down on by everyone. Even worse, when Seven and the other two Spares perform the magic circle to seal their coven and cement themselves as sisters, it doesn’t work! They’re stuck as Witchlings—and will lose their magic.
Seven invokes her only option: the impossible task. The three Spares will be assigned an impossible task: If they work together and succeed at it, their coven will be sealed and they’ll gain their full powers. If they fail… Well, the last coven to make the attempt ended up being turned into toads. Forever.
But maybe friendship can be the most powerful magic of all…
With action-packed adventure, a coven of quirky witchlings, Claribel A. Ortega’s signature humor, and girl-power vibes, you won’t be able to put down this middle grade Latine witch story, perfect for fans of Amari and the Night Brothers or Harry Potter.

Review:
I had no idea what this book was coming into it. I also didn’t know what time period it took place in. I felt like it might have been a cozy mystery. I was right about that. There’s more to it than that. It also takes place in the year 1920. It takes place in London. There are magicians in the book.
Sylvia is trying to find out about who she is. Her brother and her mother have died. She never knew her father. When she went to pursue a lead, she finds herself as a witness to a potential kidnapping. Sadly, that puts her on the radar as a suspect for the case.
I really enjoyed the book very much. There were so many elements in the book that I really enjoyed. There were many witty characters. There were magicians and references to magic. That’s not even mentioning the mystery that everybody is trying to solve through the book. I do mean EVERYBODY. There wasn’t a single person that didn’t help in some kind of way. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series! I’ve added them all to my wish list!
